I posted yesterday about our beach trip to the Outer Banks and I thought it might be helpful to follow up with what to pack for a beach trip with a baby. Babies tend to need a lot of gear to help make life easier and I wanted to make sure we were prepared! I’ve added an * next to the items that were unused but many of them I still would have taken anyways.

What to Pack for a Beach Trip with a Baby (9 days)
I’ve added an * next to the items that were unused but many of them I still would have taken anyways.
Beach and Pool
- SportBrella โ Beach Umbrella/Tent. If I was to take one thing to the beach with a baby, this would be it. I thought I would want a beach tent but I found out some beaches only allow smaller ones. So I decided to go with the SportBrella since it was more affordable and also functions as a dual beach tent/umbrella. I’m so glad we got this one because Henry loved crawling around in the sand and I liked that he had a shady area to do so. He also took at least 2 beach naps during the week we were at the beach so our tent was perfect.
- Baby splash pool – we got a 1 ring $3.88 pool from Walmart.
- Baby swim float – this ring float was perfect for Henry in the pool and it was extra nice to have the little canopy shade.
- Sunscreen – we used Babyganics and Blue Lizard. The Blue Lizard sunscreen really goes a long way.
- Wagon – perfect for loading up beach chairs, toys, drinks, umbrella, towels, etc…
- Bubbles*
- Extra Large Beach towel
- Beach toys – since he isn’t building his own things yet he would have been perfectly happy with 3-5 pieces instead of a whole kit. He loved tearing down walls that daddy would build though.
Diaper Bag
- Diapers (50 Size 3, 34 Size 4s) – probably only needed half as many.
- Wipes (150)
- Diaper bag
- Changing pad/station
- Trash bags
- Pacifier* – he doesn’t need or use a pacifier anymore but sometimes likes to play with it.
- Paci-clip* – usually used for teething toys.
- Saline and bulb*
- Thermometer*
- Nail clippers/file*
Clothes
- 2 outfits per day* 1.5 outfits per day would have been fine, if not less.
- Sleepers – we used about 1/2 of what we took.
- Sweater* – just in case but it never dipped below the 70s.
- 3 Swim diapers – these worked so well for us on this trip and I love that they can grow with him so that we can use them next summer as well.
- Swim shirt
- 2 swim bottoms – Carters
- 1 piece swim outfit
- Swim Hat – This Hanna Andersson floppy swim hat is perfect for his little bald head.
- Sunglasses – An optometrist recommended we get UVA/UVB protection with polarized lenses.
- Sandals
- 2 socks*
- Photo outfit for family portraits – I bought his little outfit from Jack and Janie a few months before our trip.
- Muslin blanket* – I like the muslin because they’re soft and breathable.
- Laundry bag
- Laundry detergent pod*
Toy Box
- Books
- Stacking cups
- Music phone
- Stacking rings
- Sorting toy
- Balls – there’s one we nicknamed the nipple ball which was his favorite. hahaha.
- Moose
Bath
- 2 bath toys
- 3 washcloths
- Baby body soap
- Shower towel
Food
- Snack cup
- Sippy cup – we use this Munchkin weighted straw cup that Henry loves.
- Bowls and spoons
- Bibs
- Calbee Pea Crisps – one of his favorite snacks.
- Pop Nโ Sit Booster seat* – the only reason we didn’t use this was because our vacation rental had booster seats available. If he’d been a little older, we would have used it like a camp chair for his seat at the beach.
Gear
- Pack โn Play
- Baby gates* – we took our own but the vacation rental provided some.
- Baby monitor – So glad we had this since we used it every day that we were away!
- Lillebaby* (used once) We happened to not really need his stroller or Lillebaby much since the few walks we went on with him we carried him. We were in a small beach town and everything was so close but if we’d gone to Rehoboth like we often do, we definitely would have used both items much more.
- Stroller* (used once)
- Mosquito net*
My top 5 favorite baby things from the trip: Sportbrella, extra-large towel, a variety of toys, baby monitor, and good sunscreen!
So I hope this list helps you as you’re figuring out what to pack for a beach trip with a baby!
