Our Peter Rabbit Baby Shower

On Sunday my sister threw us the sweetest Peter Rabbit Baby Shower! We had the shower “early” at 28 weeks for a typical baby shower since my sister leaves for summer camp in Tennessee next week. It works out well that it was early though because it gives us a few weeks to really finish up the nursery and get organized before I’m in the depths of the third trimester. 

With a Peter Rabbit baby shower, there are so many opportunities for adorable set ups and I was blown away by the effort put in by my sister, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law (with help from other family members as well!) It was overwhelming to receive so much love in anticipation of our little one’s arrival but I am so grateful. 

My dress is a non-maternity wrap dress that I ordered from Just Fab (so I could finally cancel my subscription). I ordered it in an XL and had to do some tailoring myself to get it to fit normally since the waist is supposed to sit much lower. It took about 1-2 hours for me to get it right, but I’m so glad I was able to figure it out since I felt really pretty in the dress and it seemed like the perfect baby shower dress for a hot day!

For the little welcome table, there was a August calendar where people could try and predict the baby’s arrival, a “Tales of Peter Rabbit” guestbook for guests to sign, a berry pie for the raffle gift and some loose leaf tea gift bags.

I thought that the food table was stunning! Beautiful fresh flowers, an adorable fence display (notice Peter’s jacket!), and so many little details. Hanna made little rolls shaped like bunnies, there was vegan potato salad in little pails, olive and cream cheese slices, caprese sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, egg, sandwiches, quiches, lettuce/hummus wraps, as well as fruit and veggie platters. Everything was absolutely delicious!

The little head of the table where we sat for the shower was probably the most adorable thing and the mommy and daddy sign definitely made me a bit emotional. It’s crazy we’re going to be mommy and daddy soon! The garden basket had carrots, radishes and flowers, accompanied by stuffed animal Peter and some garden tools. 

For the games we started with an alphabet baby game where guests had to write down words for each letter associated with babies. Then Brady and I read out what we’d put down and guests got a point for each word that matched. Afterwards we had to draw a picture of the baby on a paper plate while it was on top of our heads! Then each guest wrote their name and their guess for our baby’s name on their plate. We got to judge the baby drawings and see what names people thought we would give our baby boy!

One of the other games that was going on throughout was the clothespin game where you tried to catch someone if they said the word baby so you could take their clip. I lost mine right away, of course! 

While we had desserts of cupcakes, grandma’s chocolate bundt cake (the best!), lemon bars (my favorite!), and sorbet, guests were given baby bingo cards to fill in spaces of what they thought we’d receive as baby shower gifts. The first person to get 5-in-a-row and call out bingo while we were opening gifts was the winner!

Pregnancy hormones are definitely all over the place and it doesn’t take much to get me emotional (I have a great story to share with my 28 week update). My eldest cousin on my mom’s side, had a baby girl 7 months after my baby brother was born and for her baby shower, my mom made her this beautiful and soft baby blanket. One of the gifts she gave to me was that blanket my mom had made for her almost 15 years ago. 

I immediately burst into tears at this thoughtful gift. It’s incredibly hard going throughout this journey without my mom and I still can’t believe she’s not going to be here to meet her first grandchild. I am so grateful for the gift and so happy that I have these kinds of things to remind me of her and to hold dear as we welcome our son.

A couple of the big ticket items we’re gifted from our family members and it’s exciting to have the crib and stroller/car seat combo checked off the list! We’ll have to wait until we’ve had the windows, carpet, and painting done upstairs in the nursery before we put it together though!

I don’t know what prompted this face but it felt very us and I had to share.

There were so many additional little details for the Peter Rabbit baby shower including sweet little napkins, signs, watercolors, and decorations, that I don’t have any photos of but everything was perfect. After a week of straight rain we finally had a nice day! Again, we feel so blessed to receive all this love for our baby and we are so excited to introduce him to everyone very soon!
