Happy Monday! Did you have a good weekend?
This week I’m trying to implement a system to help get me started on my weight training goal. I have a lot of insecurities going into this because it’s never been anything I’ve tried to work on before but I really want to try because I think it’s an important part of a healthy weight loss journey. My aim for this week is to get in 1 gym weight training session with Brady and then do 4 home/body weight quick sessions. As I get used to having a routine, I want to be getting to the gym twice a week for a good session.
For now my home sessions are going to focus on various combinations of these 15 exercises:
- Push ups
- Triceps dips
- Bicycle crunches
- Plank
- Plank with hip dips
- Side plank
- Sit ups
- Lunges
- Squats
- Bridge
- Donkey/firehydrant kicks
- Clamshells
- Side steps with resistance band
- Opposite arm/leg lifts
- Side step ups
I ran twice last week and did one 55 minute Zumba session…
For now I’m kind of counting Zumba as one running session because I’m still working on building up strength in my calves and shins because they get tight especially on my bad leg. I did one run in my new Target clearance running shoes. I don’t really have the money to put into fancy running shoes right now especially since the good ones I got last year don’t have that many miles on them. I like this pair so far because they feel much less constricting over my foot but we’ll see how they feel after a few runs.
This week my goal is to do 1-2 Zumba sessions and 2-3 runs.
I’m really trying to get in my workouts because for every workout I complete, I feel good about getting it done, I feel more motivated and am more likely to get my next one done. For every workout I put off, the more likely I am to keep putting it off and “never” start up again.
Mindful eating is a big, big goal for me this week. It’s something I really struggle with and I really want to take control. I had a thought about doing an experiment/test on myself. I’m going to buy a candy/treat and place it on the table in the center of our home. I’m not going to buy any other snacks or treats this week and it’s going to be an exercise in self-control. For the next 7 days, I’m planning on refraining from dairy and added sugar as a test to see how I feel. I will assess the success of this elimination diet next Monday and decide what changes to make moving forward.
My ultimate goal is not only to lose weight but to be an overall healthy and active individual. I look forward to having a family and I want to be my healthiest self when the time comes. I’m attempting to focus on one day at a time and not being held back by the ever-present negative thoughts.
I believe in me.

Those are some great goal! How many running shoes????!! Ohhh It’s bad.. I’m not even sure. I think I’ve got at least 3 pairs going now plus all the ones I’ve run out… lol!
I’d say that’s a great number! I can’t wait til I can afford another good pair or two.
Great job at setting some attainable goals! I have never done a Zumba class but I did do a hip hop class once and it was really a great time! I’m sure Zumba would be just as fun!
I’m pretty sure I’d suck at a hip-hop class but it does sound like fun! I haven’t done a group Zumba class since I was in college, but I have a couple “games” for the Wii and I create custom classes with the songs. It’s great because I can get my workout done in my living room when I really don’t feel like leaving the house.
Love your goals! I try to sneak little bursts of fitness into my day. 10 squats here, 20 punches there. It all adds up!
I did a volleyball camp one summer in high school and we did a lot of pushups during the two week camp. It inspired me to keep doing it during the day while I was working and it really did make a difference! It’s sad that I have to think that far back to have a great example, but that’s really what I’m aiming for now!
