It’s hard to believe it’s already Thursday but this week has been great because of the day off on Monday where I was able to catch up on some things. We’re supposed to be having mid-seventies temps today so I broke out my sandals for the first time this season and I’m really excited about this. It’s going to be so hard if we have a major drop in temperature after this gorgeous weather.
Here are a few thoughts I’ve been having lately…
Feeling Fat
I started a blog about 2 years ago with the post, “When the Clothes Don’t Fit…” and I went on to register and complete an Iron Girl that summer while losing 20 pounds in the process. I was feeling good until my back twinged up really bad and then I wasn’t working out much at all anymore. I maintained weight for over a year and then this last fall while dealing with a heavy emotional load, I gained weight again and I’m fairly close to where I was 2 years ago. This is the struggle that so many of us deal with; the gaining and the losing is exhausting, depressing, and it feels like a game that can never be won. The last 2 weeks have been good weeks with positive momentum, but it can be hard to keep going… I feel like I’m walking up a never ending mountain, but I am determined and I’m trying to keep focused on my goals.
Meryl Davis and Charlie White
They’re not retiring but not planning on returning to competition which means they do not intend to go for the Olympics in 2018 to defend their gold in ice dancing. This is kind of depressing because their rivals have returned to compete in next year’s Olympics and Meryl and Charlie aren’t going to be there to compete with them. Yesterday was a sad day.
Eggs: Organic, cage-free, free-range, pastured, farm fresh…
They’re all labels, they’re misleading, confusing and you don’t know what’s going on. I like making batches of boiled eggs so I can have an quick and easy snack/breakfast whenever I want. I believe there is a great chance that a stressed out, mistreated hen doesn’t create as healthy an egg as a happy chicken. The USDA has pretty crappy guidelines for what certain terms mean. For example,
“The USDA’s (and industry standard) definition for “Free Range” is that birds must have “outdoor access” or “access to the outdoors.” In some cases, this can mean access only through a “pop hole,” with no full-body access to the outdoors and no minimum space requirement.”
You can read more about Certified Humane and the definitions of these different terms here.
If you’ve ever seen the Food Inc. Documentary you’ve seen how a lot of farm animals are treated like crap for the sake of making higher profits.
Anyways, I picked up these eggs at Whole Foods the other day. Even though they were like $6, I really believe that it’s important to have the best I can get if I’m going to be eating eggs on a daily basis. I did check for local farms first, but couldn’t find anyone close enough.
Homemade deodorant
I’ve been doing a lot of research this week on different homemade deodorant recipes because I’d really like to try it out. I definitely believe that we’re dousing our bodies with chemicals that we don’t truly know how they’re impacting our bodies. It’s hard to throw everything out at start fresh, but it’s good to take things one thing at a time. I have a few ideas on how I want to formulate my recipe and here are a few I’m taking inspiration from.
- Crunchy Betty, Not A Secret Homemade Deodorant
- Delicious Obsessions, Homemade Deodorant Recipe with Rosemary, Lemongrass, and Coconut Oil
- Overthrow Martha, DIY Deodorant with bentonite clay and coconut oil
- Pronounce Skincare, Homemade DIY Deodorant Recipe (no irritating baking soda recipe)
Grey’s Anatomy
This may be the most random thought and please weigh in if you thoughts on this as well! I don’t know what’s going on with the show because it’s become generally dull. The last few weeks have been an improvement on the first half of the season but they’re dragging out stories, and it just feels like they don’t have a sense of direction. I think most of the problem came when the original residents became attendings and they didn’t know how to handle it anymore. They lost Cristina, who was a driving force behind everything big that happens. They’re in a rough patch, and people are going to start hating the show if they can’t bring the passion and excitement back in. It’s like Big Bang Theory, that show died a couple seasons ago and it’s still going…
Moana
I haven’t been eager to see this movie and I didn’t really care if I ever saw it or not, but this week I’ve been addicted to the song “How Far I’ll Go” by Alessia Cara. Now I kind of want to see it but I’m not convinced. If you saw it, rate it on a 1-10 scale with 1 being horrible and 10 being totally awesome, best movie ever!
Cat in the bathtub
2-3 weeks ago, our cat started jumping in the bathtub and doing like a crying meow. As soon as we come into the bathroom, she’ll look at us, jump out, and sprawl out on the floor in the living room. I had theorized that she was seeking attention because both of us had been out a lot so she’d been home alone more than usual and she was feeling needy. The other theory was that she actually wanted a bath. I gave her a bath and she stopped for over a week. She started doing it again the other day and I’m not sure what message she’s trying to send. Has your cat ever done this?
Well that’s all for today! Thanks for listening to my rambles and please comment if you have any thoughts on these rambles 😉
If you’ve ever tried to lose weight before, whether you succeeded or not, what’s that hardest part?
Do you watch Grey’s Anatomy? Are you for or against the whole Minnick story line?
Are you starting to get excited for the Olympics next year? What’s your favorite winter sport? Or summer sport?
I’m linking with Amanda from Running With Spoons for this post.

I feel the same way as you described in feeling fat. I got engaged may 2016 and put on like 15-20 pounds since then. now my wedding is in 4 months and im screwed 🙁 Also Moana is like a 5. it wasnt bad but i have no urge to see it again.
I felt pretty bummed about my weight around wedding time because my dress ended up being a tad small and you can tell in photos. Our wedding day felt like a fairytale and I still felt like a princess even in my too-small dress! Enjoy the process because it’s a once in a lifetime experience! And 4 months is still a decent amount of time to focus in on toning muscles so that you aren’t focusing so much on the weight while you’re stressing about other wedding things.
