Time to revisit those August goals and see how things went…
August Goals Revisited
- Build core strength through my glutes, back and abs.
- Continue to build on my fitness.
- Significantly reduce sugar intake.
- Work towards a regular bedtime and wake up routine and getting healthier sleep.
Maybe 1 for 4. I think I had a rough August because there were a lot of things going on in multiple aspects of my life and it was hard to start a routine going. Hanna left for college two weeks ago so I’ve been missing her. Brady was interviewing for jobs, accepted an offer, and has been working on licensing things, I’ve been doing various work including teaching Pre-K kids for a few days! By the way, they are the most adorable little kids ever and I want to adopt them all! I’ve definitely found my age group if I ever wanted to go into teaching.
I did this craft with them one of the days I was there. Not my idea though so I can’t claim that part of the creativity.
September is the month that I will hopefully be transitioning into launching and running my photography business. Got to get around to starting it sometime. Can’t be scared and hiding forever… I am really excited though. It’s been months of planning and research so I’m excited to be dedicating my time to this new phase of life.
I didn’t really achieve any of my fitness goals for August. I haven’t been running which is something I’ve been wanting to do but I’ve been scared because my back has been borderline. I haven’t really been doing anything else because I feel like I’m always out of energy and just feeling blah. It’s become a vicious cycle of not exercising, not eating well and because I’m not doing either, I feel drained and tired all the time so I don’t feel like investing time into making good food and spending time exercising. It’s been rough.
There’s always an opportunity to hit the reset button but the beginning of a month is the perfect time to make new goals. I have a feeling it’s going to be a good month (I mean it has to be because Grey’s starts again in a few weeks!) I want to have a more specific and laid out plan to follow so that I can better follow through with achieving these goals. Here are my goals for the month of September.
September Goals
- I want to focus on building core strength and I’m going to dedicate myself to trying yoga to achieve this goal. Last night I cleared a bunch of apps off of my phone so that I could download the Gaiam Yoga Studio app. I haven’t tried a class yet, but the app is highly rated and seems like it really could be the next best thing to going to a class. The goal will be 4-5 times a week and more if I’m feeling up to it. The app costs $3.99 but I had some money in my Google play account so I paid $3.
- I have way too high of a dependency on sugar so again this is something I want to improve and work on. I’m going to detail my plan for attacking sugar and post tomorrow so watch for that especially if you struggle with it as well! Let’s help keep each other accountable ok?
- Try to start running again. The home church 5k is in about 2.5 weeks. It’d be nice if I could finish it in at least the same amount of time as last year. We’ll see how that goes, but it’s a goal!
- Plan a backpacking trip. Brady and I have done some hiking lately and ever since we did an afternoon hike on the Appalachian Trail last year (and then watched the movie Wild) we’ve chatted a lot about doing a backpacking trip. We’d have to borrow everything from family members but I’d really like to make this a reality. We’re also potentially planning an overnight bike trip on the Great Allegheny Passage around peak fall colors in October.
- Eat lots of fresh farm picked apples and veggies! Honeycrisp apple picking is hopefully happening this weekend! I love summer and fall farm dates but I haven’t had a chance to get out to the farm yet so I’m excited for all the good stuff coming in the next month.
So there it is, plans for a successful and exciting September! What are your plans for this month? Any specific goals you’re working towards or events you’re excited for? What fall TV shows are you looking forward to?

Love your blog as always! Big changes are happening for me this month as I leave my office job. I will hopefully make myself more accountable in regards to health too. Love you!
I’m so happy you’re finally leaving! <3 taking care of yourself takes work when you're not used to it, but I keep trying to take it one step at a time.
