Time for a workout update! I’ve been trying to focus on consistency, on getting out the door, and getting it done. Sometimes that’s the hardest part! So here’s my workout recap from the last 5 days. I also have a Fitbit question at the end if anyone wants to help me out!
Thursday, 7/14
I had every intention of going to the pool for a good swim but when we got there around 7:30, they were still having swim practice and the rest of the pool was really crowded. I didn’t get in until around 8 and I was pretty tired from a couple days of running so I decided to float instead. I think I swam 100m for fun. We left just after sunset and the glow on the pool water was <3
This photo makes me so happy.
Friday, 7/15
I had picked up my sister on Friday morning so we could go shopping for a handful of things I’ve been looking for including a dress to wear for Brady’s graduation in a couple weeks. I still haven’t found one. We went to Centennial Park intending to run but we got there so late in the day that it was hot, humid, muggy, miserable, and all around sucky weather to workout in. We settled for walking because we probably would have suffered from dehydration and heat stroke if we had tried to run. The animals were all out enjoying themselves though, we saw geese, squirrels, chipmunks, turtles, squished frogs, and various other birds.
Check out the geese that look like they’re traveling down a lazy river.
Hey squirrel.
I kept having some knee issues for the first mile that we walked so we kept stopping so I could alleviate whatever was going on.
Here’s our favorite spot in the trail. It’s so pretty!
I really, really hope we have a decently mild summer day for the race because I can’t image how horrible it’s going to be if race day is a repeat of Friday. We kept looking for shady parts of the trail so we could be hidden from the killer sun.
3.6 miles later…
We celebrated out sweat fest with a nutella freeze and some crepes at Cafe Mezcla. This place is amazing.
Since I walked and that felt a little like training cheating, I jump-roped for 700 quick jumps and then did some arm workouts with my 8-lb hand weights.
Saturday, 7/16
Today was a rest day. I taught a Sabbath School for my dad since he was going out for his anniversary and then spent the afternoon with my in-laws.
Sunday, 7/17
I went to the farmer’s market first thing Sunday morning and I picked out some local peaches, zucchini, and tomato for some creations I’m working on this week. I shared this recipe yesterday.
Brady spent all morning and early afternoon preparing for his NPTE which he is taking today!!!! Then we went to the pool so I could swim some laps. There was only one lane available and someone was already in the lane but it was wide enough to share so I jumped in and waited for the lady to come back to my end so she’d know I was there. As soon as she saw me, she jumped out of the lane and started swimming in the main pool area. Umm… ok. Did I do something to offend her? Somebody else came along a few minutes later and started sharing with me instead.
Sometime after 18 minutes or so of swimming, I came up for air but inhaled some water instead. I’m not a fish so my lungs spent the next minute struggling to figure out why there was water in my lungs and my attempted breathing sounded like I’d just had the wind knocked out of me.
I recovered and we headed back home to make potatoes with and Indian dish for dinner. While the potatoes baked, I did the Jillian Michaels Killer Buns and Thighs DVD. I haven’t done this one in a month or so and I realized that I’d never actually finished it before. It’s SO HARD! Wow. It’s been 2 days and I’m still wobbling around the place. I’m trying to implement this because I don’t really have a proper bike to actually train with and I could use some leg strengthening.
Monday, 7/18
I got home from work just after 4 but it was WAY too humid and stuffy to go for a run. It was over 90 degrees and 100% humidity. It stormed for a couple hours and then I headed out for my run. The temperature was so weird! It was in the low 70s because of the storm but humidity was still super high so it felt like running in a cool sauna. Really stuffy but cool feeling. I still felt like I could have filled a pool with my sweat by the time I’d finished though.
My butt was definitely feeling it from the day before so I walked it out for the first 1.2 miles before running. I ran 1.51 miles of my 3.25 mile loop. It was a slow run but it took a lot of mental power to get through it so I’m really proud of myself.

The Fitbit Question
So a question about Fitbit. I was gifted a Fitbit about a month ago from my boss who had gotten an Apple watch. I’ve noticed that the numbers between my Fitbit and my S Health tracker on my phone have been very different with my phone usually having a higher step count. I know that a small number of those extra steps on my phone come from riding in the car but I’ve watched it before and it’s a pretty insignificant number. I have watched the Fitbit when I’m walking and I feel like it lags and doesn’t pick up a number of steps before it starts counting. Here’s the biggest kicker. I’m always wearing the Fitbit, but I’m not always carrying my phone. Here are yesterday’s numbers as proof of numbers:
The numbers are so different right?! I don’t really know what to do with this information…
Help!
What should I do about the Fitbit thing?
Have any great workouts from this weekend?
Can you share any amazing peach recipes with me? I’m searching for the best peach recipes to test out and shout out!
What’s your favorite summer fruit/veggie?

I wonder the same thing about my FitBit. I wonder if it undercounts, but at the same time, I think it adds steps when I’m not moving sometimes – so maybe it evens out?
Maybe… I’ve been wondering if it’s possibly because of the model I’m using because it’s one that’s been discontinued. Are you using a newer one?
I was watching something on TV this weekend where they compared a bunch of other trackers, and the result was that the FitBit was the most accurate of the bunch. I think anything is going to be relatively inaccurate, but so long as you’re benchmarking to the same device, it should even out.
I think of it as why I always use the same scale to weigh myself (although it’s very infrequent) at least I’m always comparing like to like.
Yeah, that makes sense. I suppose it would be interesting to see if there’s as much of a difference if I was using a newer Fitbit because I think this one is a discontinued model. It doesn’t make sense to compare though so I guess I’ll stick with the Fitbit numbers because I like the breakdown better.
I have never used my phone to track but have found that the Fitbit isn’t entirely accurate when it comes to counting steps.
It’s a bit sad for sure. I thought they were supposed to be more accurate but I’m not really sure anymore. I guess I need to do some actual research and read up on it instead of hypothesizing.
